Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose 6.5 percent in October when compared to the same month a year ago, according to the provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance.
Japan, the world’s top LNG buyer, imported 6.54 million tonnes of LNG last month compared to 6.14 million tonnes in October 2017, the data shows.
This represents a year-on-year increase in LNG imports for a third straight month.
The value of October LNG imports was about $3.7 billion, a rise of 49.3 percent on year.
On the other side, the country’s coal imports for power generation declined in October by 7.2 percent to 9.19 million tonnes.
