Burckhardt Compression has been contracted to revamp the MSO compressor onboard the FSRU Golar Freeze as the vessel is readied for a new charter deal in Jamaica.
The Laby-GI Compressor by Burckhardt has been deployed on the vessel for a 10-year period, and was the first of its kind installed on an FSRU vessel, Burckhardt Compression said in its statement.
The vessel, owned by Golar Partners is contracted to the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) until the second quarter of 2019, however, the company signed a 15-year contract for a mid-sized Atlantic-based FSRU with flexible throughput, starting in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The new charterer in Jamaica will use the compressor for a different purpose, delivering gas to Jamaica’s power utility JPS which requires an increase in discharge pressure from 45 to 65 barg.
This, in turn, requires an additional compression stage, along with its extra auxiliaries, piping and other modifications.
The FSRU Golar Freeze has been converted into an FSRU from an LNG carrier and features storage capacity of 125,000 cubic meters and a 4.9 bcm per year regasification capacity.
