Liquefied natural gas (LNG) throughput volumes at the Dutch Gate terminal rose 190 percent in the January-September period as compared to the same period a year ago, according to the data released by the Port of Rotterdam on Tuesday.

Total LNG throughput at the facility located in in the port of Rotterdam reached about 3.75 million tonnes in the period under review, as compared to 1.29 million tonnes last year, the port said in its nine-month report.

Dutch first LNG terminal received 2.18 million tonnes of the chilled fuel during the period, up by 133 percent from 2017.

On the other side, Gate’s exports of previously imported LNG rose 338 percent to 1.56 million tonnes, the data showed.

“The volume of LNG handled in Rotterdam continued to grow at an impressive pace. September 2018 was a record month, with a total throughput of close to 0.8 million tonnes,” the port said in the report.

This increase was mainly due to the on-going intake of LNG transported by large ice-class vessels to Rotterdam from the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic.

In Rotterdam, these shipments are transferred to conventional LNG carriers and forwarded to destinations around the world.
