French LNG containment specialist GTT has won a new order from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries for the design of the tanks of a 174,400-cbm liquefied natural gas carrier.

Samsung Heavy will build the LNG carrier on behalf of the Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).

GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system has been selected to equip the vessel, GTT said in a statement.

The vessel’s delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.

NYK said earlier this month that the vessel will be chartered to Total Gas & Power Chartering, a unit of France’s Total.

The LNG carrier will be equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine that can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank.
