The price of spot liquefied natural gas contracted in Japan was pegged back during December 2018, according to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

In its monthly report, the ministry shows the contract-based price reached $9.2 per mmBtu, 14.8 percent below the $10.8 per mmBtu price in November 2018, and 9.8 percent below the $10.2 per mmBtu recorded in December 2017.

The arrival-based price also decreased month on month, dropping 7.8 percent from $11.5 per mmBtu in November 2018 to $10.6 per mmBtu in the month under review.

Compared to the corresponding month in 2017, however, the arrival-based price rose 30.9 percent from $8.1 per mmBtu.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessments, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
