India’s minister of petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan looked to bring on Japanese partners to build India’s LNG infrastructure during talks with Japan’s minister of economy, trade and industry, Hiroshige Seko.
In a brief statement through his social media channels, Pradhan said he discussed synergies between India and Japan “in areas of mutual interest, especially in oil & gas.”
The parties explored opportunities to establish a global LNG market reflecting true LNG demand & supply.
He also noted the discussions focused on frameworks for greater co-operation in building LNG infrastructure in India & Asia.
Both parties showed interest in working on the abolition of destination restriction clauses as well as establishing a reliable LNG spot price in order to achieve destination flexibility and cargo swapping between the two countries.
