Commodity trading company Vitol said on Friday it will soon be importing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the United States into the UK’s South Hook terminal.
The 159,983-cbm Yari LNG, loaded a cargo at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction terminal in Louisiana and is expected to deliver its cargo to the South Hook terminal in the port of Milford Haven on October 31, Vitol said in its statement.
South Hook Gas will make available terminal capacity rights to regasify Vitol’s LNG cargo and deliver its gas into the UK natural gas grid.
“This demonstrates the drive and ability of South Hook Gas, with the support of its shareholders, affiliates of Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil, to help diversify the supply of LNG into the UK market, whilst increasing utilisation of the facility’s import capacity, ” the statement said.
The South Hook terminal has previously received the chilled fuel only from the world’s largest LNG producer, Qatar. It can provide around 20 percent of Britain’s natural gas requirements.
